H. Gordon Hoover, 86, of Dunbar, died June 10, 2006 at home surrounded by his family after a long illness.
Gordon was a 12 year employee of the Union Carbide Institute Plant, and was a retired heavy equipment operator and an independent contractor servicing vehicles for the former C&P Telephone Company. He was a retired member of the Operating Engineers Union and served with the US Army in the Phillipines in World War II, having been awarded two Bronze Stars. He resided in Dunbar for 59 years and was a long time member of Roxalana Gospel Tabernacle.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Phillip and Emma Hoover, brothers, Roy, Harry, Virgil, and Clayton; sisters, Catherine Shaffer, Irene Spangler, Edith Mandernach, Velva Pauley and Reba Williams.
He is survived by the love of his life, Helen Marie Shock Hoover; seven children, Dianna Gibson and husband, Stanley, Gordon E. Hoover and wife, Mary June, Gloria Jean Shafer and husband, Paul, Emma Carpenter and husband, Richard, Brenda Williams and husband, Danny, Mary Fletcher and Darlene Hoover; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 13, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Alvaro Mendez and the Rev. Brad Burdette officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.
