Harold L. Hammack, 84, of Dunbar, took his place in Heaven's choir on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.
He was a member of the Dunbar First Church of God where he served faithfully in various leadership positions over the years. He served in the US Army 579th Ordnance Maintenance Co. during WW II. Harold retired from the Dunbar Fire Department in 1982 with 27 years of service, 14 of those as Fire Chief.
He was born to the late Henry C. and Clara Moles Hammack and was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Wayne Hammack and sisters, Zelma Myers, Opal Holcomb and Violet Holcomb.
Harold is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Theone Hammack; daughters, Donna Legg and husband, Jeb of Dunbar, Teresa Lewis and husband, Tom of Teays Valley and Pam Crites and husband, Ron of Liberty; grandchildren, Bryan Legg and wife, Cheri of Lakeland, FL, Christa Legg of Lakeland, FL, Stephen Lewis and wife, Ashley of Lee's Summit, MO, Benjamin Lewis of Hurricane, Jeremy Crites and fiancé, Jessica Hoffman and Joshua Crites of Liberty; great grandchildren, Alyssa, Avery and Addyson Legg and Landon and Parker Lewis; sister, Ouida Deweese and husband, Darrell of New Lenox, IL and half-brother, Charles Hammack of FL.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 20, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Bill Roe and the Rev. Bryan Legg officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, August 19, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
