Obituary

Harry Forest Hardman, 81, of Nitro, passed away Monday, August 11, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a short illness.

He was the son of the late Johnie and Mary Hardman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, son, Forrest, brothers, Harpo and Charles and by his sister, Pauline Rose.

Harry was an avid WVU football fan and NASCAR enthusiast. He also loved trips to the beach, fishing and the company of family and friends.

He retired from Property Protection, Charleston and was very proud of his service to his country. He was a US Navy veteran of WW II and retired after 30 years as a Chief Boatswain's Mate. His career achievements included the following awards: Five Good Conduct Medals, two National Defence Medals, China Service Medal, American Theater Medal, WW II Victory Medal, United Nations Medal, Korean Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, Navy Occupation (Asia) Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and Philippine Liberation Medal.

Harry is survived by his daughters, Patricia Richardson and her husband, Bill and Robin White and her husband, Don of Nitro; grandchildren, Brittany Smith of Nitro and Haley and Hunter White of Nitro. Also surviving are his sisters, Ruby Withrow and Eloise Gandee of Walton and brothers, Jack Hardman and Jerry Hardman and his wife, Mary of Walton, Dick Hardman and his wife, Annie of Blue Creek, along with several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military rites will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Grandview Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Thomas Memorial Hospital for their care and support.
