The Rev. Harry Lee Shaffer, 84, of Charleston, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness.
He was a retired minister and retired from Libby-Owens-Ford after 33 years of service. The Rev. Shaffer was a veteran of WW II and was longtime Charleston resident.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jackie Shaffer of Charleston and by his brothers, Clyde, Lonnie and Orville Shaffer.
Surviving are his wife, Leoda Shaffer; sons: Harry L. Shaffer, Jr. and his wife, Janet of Charleston and Bobby Shaffer of Charleston; daughters, Mary Ann Wilson and her husband, Freeman of Richmond, Va., Betty Dorsey and her husband, Dean of Chesapeake; step-daughter, Jo Ann Pickens and her husband, Dallas of Gay; brothers, James Shaffer of Loudendale and Siebert Shaffer of North Carolina; seventeen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, February 2, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Harold Burton Hall and the Rev. Randy Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Gardens of Memories, Pocatalico.
