Obituary

Hazel Kay, 92, of Dunbar, died May 3, 2009 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.

Hazel was born in Given, WV, on April 27, 1917, daughter of the late Emory and Carrie Kay. She was a member of First Church United Methodist, now Dunbar United Methodist, in Dunbar and was a graduate of Union District High School.

Hazel entered the service upon graduation and in February 1943 graduated from WAAC Detachment, Central Signal Corps as a general clerk in the radio division. She began her 25 year career with Union Carbide, Building 82, in 1963. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with family and friends.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Carrie Kay, sister, Virginia Kay Russell and brother, Emory Basil Kay.

Surviving are her niece, Linda Kay Cipoletti (Sam) of South Charleston; nephews, Dan Kay (Kim) of Cross Lanes, Ben Kay of Sarasota, FL; great-nephews, Rob Kay of St. Petersburg, Fla., Tony Boyd (Stephanie) of Alexandria, Va., Patrick Boyd (Gretchen and Jonathan) of Dunbar, Justin Kay of Cross Lanes; great nieces, Alexa Kay of Cross Lanes and Kristy Pressly of West Palm Beach, FL; and cousin, John Kay of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor John A. Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

The family extends special thanks to the staff at Sweetbriar Assisted Living in Dunbar for the excellent care she was given during her residency.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the Dunbar United Methodist Church, 1401 Myers Avenue, Dunbar, WV 25064.
