Helen Louise Mitchell, 90, of Dunbar, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at her home and is now waiting for the rapture.
She was born November 30, 1925 and born again March 15, 1950. Helen often spoke of cherished childhood memories growing up in Barboursville with her wonderful parents, Charles and Florence Stephens and 8 siblings. She married the love of her life George W. Mitchell, August 11, 1945 and they enjoyed 65 years of God's blessings together until his passing in June 2010. Helen was a faithful member of West Dunbar Community Church, Charleston Mountain Mission and Rebecca Chapel in Dunbar. She was a dedicated school cook for Pierpont, Mound and Staunton Elementary, retiring after 17 years of service. Most of all she was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to us all. We already miss her wisdom and guidance.
Helen is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Stephen and Margaret Mitchell of Woodstock, Georgia and Timothy Jay and Joy Mitchell of Hurricane; daughter and son-in-law Luann and Jerry Flanagan of Dunbar. Her very, very special grandchildren include, Tommi Sue, Sarah Marie (Pete), Mary Louise of Woodstock, Georgia and Sandy Davis and Jay Montgomery, Jamison Scott (Lorrie) of St Albans, Jason Todd (Amber) of Hurricane, Kaila of Scott Depot, Kristen Davenport and Whitney Williams, and Cara Lee Flanagan and Ryan James Flanagan of Dunbar. She was the happiest when her family was visiting, especially her ten great-grandchildren (+8 or so).
The family would like to thank the many friends who offered prayers and well wishes through Mom's recent illness. We find such peace and comfort knowing she is resting peacefully now and will be with her Lord, precious family members, her many brothers and sisters in Christ, and her best friend, Frances Finney, who was like a sister to her.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 22, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Rev. Ron Nida officiating.
