Obituary

Helen Irene Vanness, 89, of Nitro, passed away suddenly and went to be with the Lord, on Sunday, November 25, 2018.

She was born on July 22, 1929, in Charleston, to the late William Burns and Marie Ann Sullivan.

Helen was a graduate of Charleston High School. She enjoyed puzzles, reading books, word search books, and bird watching. She was also a member of Big Bottom Church in Campbells Creek and enjoyed attending when she was able.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Thomas Vanness Sr.; two infant sons; sister, Norma Selbe.

She is survived by her children, Charles T. Vanness and wife Debra of Middleburg, FL, Laura M. Vanness and partner Kay of Leon, Jack T. Vanness Jr. and wife Roberta of Racine, Norma I. Burgess of Nitro, and Janet L. Crone of Dunbar; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 30 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Fred Christian officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston.

Friends may visit two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
