Henry "Hank" Clayton Comer passed away on March 29, 2007 at his home in South Charleston.
Hank was born on April 26th, 1924 in Loudendale. He attended S. Charleston High School where he lettered in Basketball and Baseball. He was commissioned as an officer in the 8th Air Force in 1943 and flew B17s in the European Theater during WWII. After faithfully defending his country, he returned to WV and attended Morris Harvey University for 2 years. He went on to work at DuPont located in Belle, WV where he worked for 35 years until his retirement. He eventually relocated to S. Charleston where he lived out his remaining years enjoying his family, friends and hobbies.
Hank was an avid golfer and league bowler. He was the winner of the Kanawha Valley Championship Golf Tournament/First Flight in 1974 and traveled on many occasions to league tournaments throughout the Midwest. Hank was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the Elks Lodge #202 and the American Legion.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents, Henry William Comer, Grace Bayes Comer; sisters, Genevieve Sachs and Ruby Stover.
He is survived by his sister, Grace Ramona Novakowski of W. Falls Village, NY; two sons Christopher Alan Comer of Culloden, and John Scott Comer, his wife Michelle Comer, and their three children, Britton Gallagher; Mandy Comer; and Nicholas Comer who all reside in Dallas, TX.
Hank Comer was a wonderful and dynamic individual who lived his life to fullest. He was charming and a fabulous story teller and loved to laugh. To all of us who knew him – we knew love, sincerity, kindness and integrity.
He will be missed by all of those who loved him. May he finally rest in the arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and have eternal peace.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Mike Jarrett officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 2, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
