Henry H. "Hank" Evers, 93, of Teays Valley passed away on March 21, 2015 after a short stay at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
Born to William Evers and Jennie DeVriese Evers on October 10, 1921 on a farm located on the outskirts of Chicago, Ill. Hank was the oldest of eight children. After working his way through school, he graduated with a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois, and became employed with Union Carbide Corporation in South Charleston as a chemical engineer prior to entering the military service in 1942. He proudly worked at Union Carbide for over 30 years in many capacities, including a department head and with a research and development team, traveling both in and outside of the United States. During his many years working for Union Carbide, he and his wife Beverly, raised their family in South Charleston and attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. His children will forever be indebted to him for seeing that they all received college educations and instilling in them love of hard work, music and fishing. He made many wonderful friends in his years with Carbide and loved his work.
Hank served in the United States Navy during WWII as a Lieutenant J.G. seeing action in and around the Philippine Islands as captain of a sub-chaser and cargo ship during the war and earned a Victory Ribbon World War II and Asiatic Pacific medal for his meritorious service in the war.
After retiring from Union Carbide, Hank and his wife, Beverly, lived in the State of Florida for nearly 30 years where they made many friends and where he enjoyed fishing.
He loved many activities, including gardening, ice skating, boating and was an avid fisherman. He spent many enjoyable hours fishing the beautiful mountain streams and lakes of West Virginia, as well as the lakes of Florida.
The past three years Hank lived at Broadmore Assisted Living and Memory Care Unit in Teays Valley, where he made numerous friends. He would wish to be remembered by the staff and his many friends at Broadmore Assisted Living, who were his extended family and wonderfully kind to him in the past several years living there.
Hank was preceded in death by loving wife, Beverly May Evers; his parents, William and Jennie Evers; his sisters, Alice, Deana, Gertrude and Henrietta; and brothers, John, Bill and David.
He is survived by his sons, Gregory W. Evers (Beverly K.) of Cross Lanes, Father Paul Evers of Masontown, Patrick J. Evers (Patricia) of Alvaton, Georgia, Michael Evers (Mary) of Wexford, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Dr. Gregory W. Evers, Jr. (Jessica), Whitney R. Evers, Christopher Evers, Molly Michelle Yang (Jayson), Nick Evers, Rachel Evers, Dr. Kyle Evers; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Evers, Elaina Evers, Zander Evers, Shaun Evers and Joseph Moore.
Funeral services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, South Charleston at a date to be set in April.
Hank will be interred in the National Cemetery in Grafton will full military honors, to rest in eternity with his beloved and deeply missed wife, of 69 years, Beverly May Evers who passed away November 22, 2011.
