Obituary

Hobert L. Clower, 88, of Dunbar, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2008, at the Hubbard Hospice House.

He was born in Linside, Monroe County, to the late David Bird and Elizabeth Miller Clower.

Mr. Clower enlisted in the US Army at a young age and was part of the Army Air Corps, which later became the US Air Force. He served in WW II and earned the Bronze Star. He spoke often of times he spent in the Philippines, Galapagos, the Azores, France and Germany. After retiring from the US Air Force, he worked in what is now called biomedical engineering and retired at the age of 65. He loved to travel and once rode his motorcycle from West Virginia to California.

Mr. Clower was proud of his family, always spending time with his children and even spent time teaching them to fish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, William Berger and Hubert Clower, and sisters, Dorothy Lewis and Louise Baird.

Surviving are his loving wife, Charlotte; son, George Clower of Dunbar; daughters, Heidi Frye of Ranger, Barbara Randolph of Dunbar and Dorothea Clower Sigmon, Smith Hardesty of Missouri; brother, David Clower of Richmond, Va; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 10, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Ross Harrison officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
