Hobert "Hobie" Carroll Monk, 80, of Dunbar, received his wings on May 10, 2016.
He retired as a truck driver from Yellow Freight after 35-plus years of service. Hobie was a member of Teamsters Local 175 and attended Dunbar First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Gladys Monk; and brothers, Clifford, Charles,
Denver, Donald, Paul, and Dallas Monk.
Hobie is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth Ann Monk; daughters, Kim Haddox (Kenny), Vicki Simmons (Mike), Charlene Whittington (Paul); six grandchildren, Christopher and Amanda Haddox, Jennifer Collins, Alexis Smith Brackett, Chad Smith, and Jessica Scott Shaffer; seven great-grandchildren, Grant, Megan, and Clara Haddox, Layla Collins, Mila Brackett and Ella and Eva Shaffer; fur baby, CoCo; and sister, Connie Casto.
The family would like to thank Hospice Care and Genesis Dunbar Health Care, their staff and residents, for their support and care.
Hobie's request was to be cremated with no service.
