Obituary

Imogene Gillispie Hartwell, 72, of South Charleston, entered into the glory of Heaven with Christ Jesus to spend eternity on Friday, August 5, 2016.

She was born into this world on December 10, 1943 to the late Edward Sr., and Gladys Irene Gillispie.

Imogene was a faithful believer in Christ and proudly spoke of his grace and salvation frequently to everyone. She loved reading and studying the Bible and Southern Gospel Music. Imogene graduated from South Charleston High School in 1962. She retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital after 35 years, where she was a Dietary Supervisor. She then went to work for the West Virginia State Police Academy, where she retired again after 13 years. She treasured deeply and thoroughly enjoyed time with her family. Researching her family heritage and old photos brought her true joy. She loved the beach, camping, sewing, cake decorating, Mountaineer football and spoiling all of her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Imogene was preceded in death by eight of ten brothers and sisters; Gustie Lee Means, Mae Oma Pauley, Edward Gillispie Jr., Delmar Gillispie, Donald Gene Gillispie, Connie Sue Castle, Franklin Gillispie and Mary Ann Gillispie.

Mourning her passing are her loving husband of 48 years, Thurman C. Hartwell; her beloved children, B. Scott Hartwell and wife, Karen, of Hurricane and Madalyn D. Smith and husband, Phillip, of South Charleston; and her devoted sister, Gladys M. Gore of South Charleston. Her tender spirit and legacy of faith will forever be remembered by her grandchildren, Samuel Hartwell and Brandi, Chrysa and Lily Smith. Imogene also had two great-grandchildren, Bryson and Austin Hartwell. She will be missed by countless family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m., Tuesday, August 9, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Gene Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 8, at Keller Funeral Home.
