Obituary

Inez Hudson Mitchell, 93 of Dunbar entered the gates of Heaven on April 26, 2015 following a long illness.

She was greeted by her hudbands, Verl "Wick" Hudson, and Ervin Harmon Mitchell, her son Ted Hudson, eleven siblings and other family.

She was born July 13, 1921 to Lemuel and Florida Stump in Stumptown, WV. Mom had a tough but happy life. Struggling through the depression, she quit her education after the 8th grade and went to work to help support her family. At the age of 16 she moved to Dunbar to work at Dunbar Glass where she met her first husband Verl. After his passing in 1978 she married Ervin Mitchell and they enjoyed the golden years of life together for 18 years.

Inez was an accomplished craftsman. She was very instrumental in the organization of the Mountain State Arts and Crafts Fair which continues each July in Cedar Lakes. In 1963, as part of our centennial celebration, Ms. Edna Henderson a well-known sculptor was commissioned by the State of WV to sculpt dolls of WV First Ladies to be exhibited in the State Museum. Mom assisted her by replicating and sewing dresses to match the ball gowns worn by the ladies at the inauguration. This was one of her proudest accomplishments. She traveled throughout Kanawha County sharing her love of crafts by teaching other while employed by Kanawha County Parks and Recreation. She was also employed by Tandy Leather, American Handicraft and Murphy Mart.

Inez was a member of Dunbar First Church of God where she was actively involved in the Women's Circle. She was a member of the Dunbar Women's Club where she made "Pillow Pals" to be placed in suitcases for children in foster care.

She is survived by sons Tom (Connie) Hudson of Dunbar, Jim (Annette) Hudson of Dunbar; daughter-in-law Sharon Cavender Hudson of Sissonville; and brother -in-law Charlie (Anna Grace) Hudson of Pliny; she also leaves behind several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family expresses gratitude for those who loved and cared for Mom as their own mother during the last few years: Connie Smith, Kanawha Valley Senior Services, Susan Pennington, hospice nurse Linda Greenlee, the staff of the Hubbard Hospice House, and the staff of Mama's Place where she spent her last four months. We are forever grateful.

A celebration of Inez's life will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday April 29 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with the Rev. Dr. Larry McCallister officiating. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A family grave side service will be held on Thursday April 30, at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
