Ira Gerald "Argil" Smith, 84, of Winfield, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
He was born December 22, 1923, son of the late Pratt and Mae Bennett Smith of Webster Springs. He was a US Navy veteran, having served in WW II. Argil was a member of the American Legion Post 73 and VFW Post 6418 of St. Albans. He was a retired driver for the Teamster's Union and was a former member of the Nitro Moose Lodge and the VIP Bowling League.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Justine Young.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Jean Smith; son, Danny Smith and his wife Kay of Frazeysburg, OH; daughter, Deborha Myers and her husband, Harvey of St. Albans; brother, Richard P. Smith of Parkersburg and sister, Marion Cole of Townsville, SC.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Brian Smith, and his wife, Kim, Michelle Catersino and her husband, Eric and Chris Myers, and his wife, Bobbie; seven great grandchildren and his pet dog, "Angel."
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 7, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor Keith Davis officiating. Burial with military rites performed by the American Legion Post 73 and VFW Post 6418, St. Albans, will follow in Teays Valley Memorial Gardens.
