Irene Bostic, 86, of Dunbar, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 14, 2024.

She was born on September 20, 1938, in Magdeburg, Germany, to the late Wilhelm Holzmacher and Charlotte Holzmacher Grabowski.

Irene was born and raised in East Germany, where she lived through World War II.  As a young woman living in Darmstadt, Germany, she met and married her husband, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Dennis B. Bostic.  The two left Germany with their young girls in the 1960s and traveled and lived in many states across America where she worked at the Post Exchange.  Irene was a homemaker and worked for many years at Gardner's Dry Cleaning in Dunbar.  She never met a stranger and loved talking to people.  She enjoyed her family, children, and great-grandchildren, as well as a close circle of German ladies who met monthly in the Kanawha Valley.  She was a great story teller telling stories about living as a young girl during World War II in Germany that her family and friends enjoyed.  We will miss her strong German accent and her wisdom given to us over the decades.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Bostic; and son-in-law, Jeff Brownlow.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Hella Ashby (Donald) of Dunbar, Judy Brownlow of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Amy Sue Ashby, Joshua Ashby, Andrea Brownlow, Charde Brownlow; and great grandchildren, Jakob and Natalie Farmer, McKayla Brownlow, George and Georgia Sawyer, Keriann and Kash Brownlow.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Minister Roger Pence officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
