Underwood, Sr.
June 10, 1936 – September 29, 2024
Jack Warner Underwood Sr., 88, of St. Albans, formerly of Dunbar, went to sleep on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
He was born on June 10, 1936 in Caldwell, WV, to the late Edgar and Margaret Underwood.
Jack was raised by his aunt and uncle, Harold and Myrtle Cain. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. He retired from Vecellio & Grogan. He enjoyed gardening watching old television shows and westerns, taking car trips, and watching his great grandson, Logan, play baseball. Jack attended Highlawn Baptist Church in Saint Albans.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by he wife, Shirley E. Underwood; daughter, Nellie Underwood Clark; step-daughter, Sue Hall; grandson, George Lee Thaxton; and step-father, Alf Ivarson.
Jack is survived by his children, Cheryl Thaxton (Keith) of Sissonville, Kim Rucker of Sissonville, Jack Underwood Jr., of Hurricane, Anita Caruthers of Poca; son-in-law, Mick Hall of South Charleston; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor Jason Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park. St. Albans.
Friends may visit two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
A special thank you to Jack's daughter, Anita for the love and care she provided throughout his good and bad days. We would also like to thank Erika Bailey, his hospice nurse, Respite Care, and HospiceCare.
