Obituary

Jack T. Vanness, Sr., Age, 83, passed away September 24, 2008 in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Fayette County, July 27, 1925. He retired from the Charleston Fire Department after 34 years of service and was a volunteer fireman for the Loudendale, Davis Creek and Malden fire departments. He was a member of the Big Bottom Church and was a US Navy veteran of WW II.

He was preceded in death by 2 infant sons, his parents, Doss and Bessie Bowles.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen; sons, Charles T. Vanness and his wife, Jane of Middleburg, Florida, Jack T. Jr. and his wife, Roberta; daughters, Laura Vanness and Norma Burgess of Nitro and Janet Crone of Hurricane, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12 p.m. noon Saturday at the Big Bottom Church, Campbell's Creek Road. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston.

Friends may call at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the family at 308 Broadway Avenue, Nitro, WV 25143.
