Jackson E. "Paps" Davis, 73, of South Charleston, passed away Dec. 4, 2006 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
He was retired from the New York Railroad in Cleveland, Ohio and was a US Navy veteran. Jack volunteered for over 20 years at the Village and Bridgeview Elementary Schools. He served as a crossing guard at Bridgeview Elementary School for 7 years. Jack also volunteered for the Spring Hill Eagles Midget Football League and worked with Burr Thaxton teaching gymnastics for several years. He was selected as a Hometown Hero for Kanawha County in 1990 for his work at Village Elementary School.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Howard and Neva Davis; son, Junnie Davis, daughter, Pamela Cantrell and brothers, Alvin and Ronnie Davis.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Myrna Davis; daughter, Debbie Mallory and her husband, David of South Charleston; son-in-law, Joe Cantrell of Charleston; sisters, Billie Fisher of Mentor, OH and Patty Summers of Ridgely, WV; brother, Charles Davis of Wickcliff, OH; grandchildren, Tony Rucker, Craig, Jason, Jessy, Sarah and Christine Davis; fourteen great grandchildren; ten nephews and four nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Juanita Eads officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park.
