Dr. Rev. James C. Abner, 82, of St. Albans, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 14, 2019.
He was born on January 30, 1937, in Harlan County, KY, to the late Ezra and Mallie Abner.
Dr. Abner was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a Chaplin and a Deputy in the Kanawha County Sherriff Department for 13 years. He was a Pastor at Mt. Mariah Full Gospel Church for over 20 years. Dr. Abner also served as a Pastor and Evangelist to many churches in Oklahoma, Ohio, Florida, and West Virginia. His greatest accomplishment was having the honor and calling to minister on behalf of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Elisha Abner, Charles Abner, Wilfred Lee Abner; and his sisters, Mildred Cooper, Rozella Morrison, Lillian McCue, and Brenda Abner.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara Jean Abner; children, James Allen Abner, Debbie Abner, Sherrie Abner, Jeremiah Abner, Nathan Abner, Christina Harper; stepchildren, Charline Raffle, G. Ervin Harper, Robin Baire; brother, Harold Abner; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Rev. David Bragg, Rev. Jerry Cantley, and Rev. Avis Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
Friends may visit two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
