James "Jim" Alvin Devers, 94, of Gloucester, VA and formerly from Dunbar, WV went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2025.

He was born March 10, 1930 in Charleston, WV to the late Orville and Isabel Devers.

Jim was a graduate of Dunbar High School and served in the Air Force.  He also served the Dunbar community as a member of the civil defense, auxiliary police, and as police commissioner.  Jim was a lifelong member of Dunbar United Methodist Church where he served the Lord in different capacities.  He worked for over 35 years at Union Carbide where he eventually retired in 1986.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann; sister Marjorie Ann Devers; and grandson, David Wayne Barker.

Jim is survived by his sons, Randall Hugh (Donna Kay), James Frederick (Shirley Lisa); daughter, Carala Jean Barker (Kenneth Wayne); nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Dunbar United Methodist Church with Pastor Jarrod Caltrider officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 23 at Dunbar United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dunbar United methodist Church Endowment Fund, 1401 Myers Ave, Dunbar, WV 25064.
