James Floyd Atkins, 76, of Dunbar, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at CAMC- Memorial Hospital.
He was retired from the Charleston Housing Authority and was a member of the Daugherty Street Church of Christ.
Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Delsie and Palmer Pitzer, Sr. and by his brother, Palmer Pitzer, Jr.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Delores Atkins; daughters, Diane Fields and her husband, Jimmy of Vinton, Va., Joyce Anderson and her husband, Denver of Deer Park, Tx and Janet Gibson and her husband, John of Athens, AL; brothers, John Henry Atkins of Parkersburg, Eugene Atkins of Ohio, Donald Pitzer of Putnam Co, and Paul Wells of Leon. Also surviving are grandchildren, Lisa Sullivan, Jimmy Fields, Jr., Michael Fields, Brian Anderson, Keri Fields, Derek Anderson, Amanda Smith and Jesse Gibson and nineteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 24, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Minister John Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
