Obituary

James Edward "Bookey" Bryant IV, 62, passed away on December 4, 2022.

He was born on July 29, 1962 in Cleveland, Ohio to his parents James Edward Bryant II and Kay Frances Bryant. At an early age the family relocated to Charleston, West Virginia.

Bookey was educated in Kanawha County Schools. At an early age, he grew a love for fishing and mini bikes which he rode at the Boys & Girls club at The Salvation Army with his friends. He also took interest in video games and computers. His interest in computers later led to him graduating from the National Institute of Technology in Cross Lanes, with a degree in electronics.

As time passed, he took an interest in cars and trucks. This led to him acquiring his CDL and he began driving big rigs, driving in 49 states and Canada. After coming off the road he drove the Head Start bus for Kanawha County Schools. Bookey had a special love for all kids which then made that job even more rewarding. He had also been employed by Tri-State Race Track and Kroger until his health started to take a turn.

In spite of his health challenges, he never stopped being the biggest jokester we've known; just don't pull his finger (lol). And just so you know, Bingo was his thing! He loved it as well as his bingo family.

Bookey endured dialysis for 14 years, yet he never gave up or complained. As his time grew near, he developed a special bond with his niece Jamilla; as well as with all of his nieces and nephews. He will not be forgotten.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts and uncle, as well as a great-niece.

Bookey leaves to mourn; his two sisters, Rosebud and Linda; brother David (Brenda); his grandson, Mateo; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and other extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m on Saturday, December 10 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home.
