James "Jim" C. Meeks passed away on January 18, 2024 in Naples Florida. Jim was born July 26, 1952 in Charleston WV. He attended Dunbar High School and was a 1970 graduate of Charleston Catholic High School where he was an all-state football star. He married the love of his life, Jean Ann, in 1976. In 1978 Jim started working in the oil and gas industry where he became a wireline engineer for NL Industries and Atlas Wireline. In 1996 he started his own company Meeks Wireline Services. Along with the help of his wife and so many others, in just 12 years, he grew Meeks Wireline into the biggest and most successful independent wireline company east of the Mississippi.
In 2008 he sold his company and he and Jean Ann retired to Naples Florida. To this day Jim is known and revered in the industry as the one of the greatest backoff specialists to ever live. Jim was fortunate enough to travel and enjoy life. Whether it was cruising, sporting events, or concerts he lived a full life. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, traveling, watching football (especially the Chicago Bears) and bragging about his two sons, Jimmy and Justin. He will be remembered for what he was best at, a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jean Ann Meeks of Naples Florida; son, Justin Meeks (Nicole) of Gallipolis OH; his grandchildren, Lillian Meeks of Lexington KY, Luke Meeks of Lexington KY and Ava Sneed of Gallipolis, OH; his brothers-in-law, Michael McLaughlin (Sandy) and Steve McLaughlin (Becky) and who he considered a brother, Gary Trail (Linda) and a slew of friends that he always treated like family. He is proceeded in death by his son, Jimmy "Nims" Meeks; his mother, Maxine Meeks; his father, C.R. "Snook" Meeks and his brother, John H. Meeks.
There will be a celebration of Jim's life Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Embassy Suites Ball Rooms D and E in Charleston WV starting at 6:30 p.m. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Jim's son will be giving a tribute to his father at 7:15 p.m.
