James Maurice
Carter
June 24, 1964 – April 18, 2021
James Maurice Carter Sr., 56, entered the gates of Heaven on April 18th, 2021, way too soon, after a short and unexpected illness.
He was born on June 24, 1964 to Ella and Peter Carter.
Also known as Jim or JC, he was a resident of West Dunbar, also known as "The Bottom" for most of his life. Jim graduated from Dunbar High School in 1982. He immediately went on to serve in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Hawaii, London, and South Korea. From there he went on to be a Charleston Firefighter. He also worked at Mardi Gras Casino & Resort as a black jack dealer. Later, he worked at the West Virginia State Capital, brightening anyone's day that crossed his path.
He was an active member of his community. Jim loved participating in community clean up every year. He was a midget league football coach for many years for the Dunbar Bullpups D-Team and C-Team. Anyone who met him knew him by his outgoing personality and comedy. He was easily the life of the party.
Jim loved to cook; it was one of his greatest passions! You could find him watching the food network on any given day getting inspiration for what he was gonna cook next. He loved preparing big meals for his family.
He always looked forward to our annual family trips to the beach whether that be Holden Beach, Emerald Isle, or the Outer Banks. It was the company of family that he enjoyed and fishing, crabbing, boating, and hanging out beachside. Those memories will live forever in our hearts.
We hope that he was greeted by his son, Chase Maurice Carter who proceeded him in passing.
Left to cherish Jim's memory are his beloved children, Taylor Nicole Carter and James Maurice Carter Jr. including their mother, Victoria L. Carter; grandchildren, Myzari Deshunta Martin and Bliss Monroe Strong; loving mother, Ella Louise Carter; father, Peter J. Carter; sister, Terry L. Agneu (Mattison Agneu Jr.); nephews, Mattison Agneu lll, Antoine Agneu, and Adrian Agneu; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
Thoughts and flowers can also be sent to the funeral home. All are welcome to attend.
