Obituary

The fight to speak, walk and even breathe is now over. My dear father, James E Hannan, 82, passed away on July 5, 2017 at Hubbard Hospice House West.

Thankfully Dad only had to spend one night there where the rest of his life was spent with his family while sitting in his favorite recliner.

Jim was born on July 18, 1934, the son of Garland & Sally Hannan. He attended the First Church of God in Spring Hill and was loved by many. He retired from Saint Albans Housing, although he performed several different jobs throughout his career, but the most important one was caring for his wife who battled Alzheimer's for 14 years. Dad was a man of very few words but the impact he left on your life was indescribable. His love for gospel bluegrass music was his favorite past time even though he enjoyed long car rides, vacations, and spending time with his family and friends.

He never had a biological son, but was blessed beyond measure with a son-in-law whom he adored. Also, left to cherish his memory are three grandchildren, Christopher Bennett, Derek and Destiny Edwards. Destiny was his constant companion, nurse, educator, entertainer, manicurist, and human alarm clock. However, all three of his grandchildren meant the world to him.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Betty, of 52 years; and a daughter, Peggy.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Jerry Edwards; grandsons, Derek Edwards and Christopher Bennett; granddaughter, Destiny Edwards; sister, Jean Higgins; and many friends, nieces, and nephews.

A special thanks to Bozo Thomas; who was always there with a helping hand or encouraging word.

Dad, I want to thank you for all the love, laughter and wonderful memories you left me to cherish. A big part of me died when you did, but I now know that you are at peace and I can't wait to see you again. We will miss you.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 10, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Jerry Meadly officiating. Burial will follow in Teays Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in James' memory to Hubbard Hospice House West, 4905 MacCorkle Ave. S. W. South Charleston, WV 25309.
