James G. Painter, 82, of Dunbar, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Hospice House at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 18, 1939 to the late Ulysses "U.G." Painter and Elizabeth Dabney Painter.

James was a graduate of Dupont High School and Glenville State College. He was of Catholic faith and did mass daily. James attended Sacred Heart before moving to Dunbar several years ago.

He drove everywhere until he wasn't able to drive his vehicle, he then got a scooter and continued to go where he wanted. James also enjoyed dancing.

He resided at Genesis Dunbar Center for the past five years, as he wasn't able to live by himself.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Painter.

James is survived by his cousin, Emil Hopkins, who helped him when he needed it and her daughter, Nicole Hopkins who he had a special bond with; and several other cousins.

Honoring his wishes, James will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 1, in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
