James R. Settle, Sr., 84, of Dunbar, went to sleep in the arms of the Lord on October 3, 2007.
He was the son of the late Frank J. and Ida Mae Settle of Cedar Grove. Jim was a graduate of Bostwick High School in Georgia and retired from Union Carbide at Institute as Materials Management of Investment Recovery. In 1950, he worked at the Rubber Plant at Institute as Chief of plant protection. He also served as Street Commissioner at Cedar Grove. During WW II, he worked at US Aluminum in Bridgeport, CT where he met his wife, Ernestine.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil Settle of Florida.
He will be sadly missed by those he left behind: his loving wife of 64 years, Ernestine, formerly of Bridgeport, CT and his little faithful companion, Princess; sons, James R. Settle, Jr. of Dunbar, Richard Settle and his wife, Pam of Little River, SC and Allen R. Settle of Charleston; daughters, Joann Allen and her husband, Gil of Topping, Va., Pat Settle and Richard Nelson of Dunbar and Wendy Scites and her husband, Kevin of Ochlocknee, Ga; sister, Lucille Walker of Tenn; brother, Franklin Settle and his wife, Susan of Atlanta, Ga; six grandchildren, Jason Settle of Hurricane, Jimmy Settle, III and his wife, Jessica of Missouri, Brian Settle and wife, Sheryl of Hurricane, Sheri Flanery and husband, Todd of Longs, SC, Ashley and Heather Scites of Ochlocknee, Ga; five great grandchildren, Shanda "Bug" Settle, Brandon Flanery, Joshua, Kyle and Lindsay Settle; nieces, Diane and Crystal Walker.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 5, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 6, at Keller Funeral Home, with Jim's sister, Lucille Walker officiating the eulogy service.
