James "Jimi" Michael Rakes, aka Grease, 66, of Dunbar, transitioned from this life on October 13, 2020.

Affectionately known as Jimi, he was loved by many. He was a graduate of Dunbar High School. His work career started with Union Carbide Corp. in South Charleston which led him to Union Carbide Corp. in Raleigh, NC. He was an avid Tar Heels and Duke Bluedevils fan. Back in the day, for 25 cents, you could see him do the James Brown slide.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin S. Rakes and Blanche L. Price; and sister, Terry Parker.

Left to mourn his memory are his daughters, April, Brittany,Camille, Margo and Crystal; brothers, Benjamin (Cindy), Jerry (Tammy) and Thomas; sisters, Ellen, Joyce, Donna (Tom) and Patty (William); aunt, Rinda Price; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

A special thank you to Ian Hankins and Michael Greenhowe and a very heartfelt appreciation to his niece, Cynthia Hill.

A private family service will be held on Monday, October 19, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

A walk through visitation for friends will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
