James Wesley Hill, 78, of South Charleston, died suddenly on March 18, 2017.

He was retired from Union Carbide, and was a volunteer for many social services. He was an animal lover, a humanitarian, and he cared deeply for his friends and family. He was a hero to his children and grandchildren. He was a true gentleman and our dad was just the best and he will be sadly missed by his friends and family.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Cleo Hill; brother, Leonard Hill; sisters, Becky Farley and Glenna Respass; the love of his life, Carolyn Brandli; and loving grandson, Matthew James Hill III.

He is survived by his children, James W. Hill II (Tammy) of FL, Christine Toney of Dunbar, Jerry Hill (Gina) of Barboursville, Michele Stanley (Brian) of South Charleston; brothers, Richard Arden Hill of St. Albans and William Brent Hill of Poca; sisters, Patricia Lahorra of Ohio and Janet Shelton of Nitro; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and special friend, Karen.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar
