Janice Hawkins Reese Corbett 87, of Dunbar, born December 29, 1930 went home to be with the Lord April 9, 2018.
Janice was born in Charleston, to Leonard and Dorothy Hawkins. She was baptized at an early age. Janice attended Garnett High School in Charleston where she had a gift of singing and would often sing on the radio. She had various jobs whiles raising her 10 children as a widow after their father died in 1969. She retired from the West Virginia Rehabilitation Center after serving 25 years as a House Mother. God not only favored her path, he ordered her steps through some rough, difficult and uncertain times and her faith gave her the fortitude to press on.
She was preceded in death by parents Leonard Larry Hawkins and Dorothy Hawkins- Fryson. Siblings Leonard Hawkins Jr. and Dorothy Hawkins- Strawther. Late husbands, John Edward Reese Sr. (Duffy) and Rev. C. C. Corbett as well as her daughter and name sake Janice Hawkins-Carroll and her grandson, Darrell Edward Johnson.
She is survived by her siblings John W. Hawkins Sr. (Barbara), Cora Heath (Harry), Sim Fryson (Susan), Paul Fryson, Rev. Dr. David M. Fryson (Joy). Children, Margretta Kincaid, Cora Lewis, Rev. John Reese (Carolyn), Linda Hankins, Marcia Johnson, Larry Reese Sr. (Angela), Dorothy Penn (Simon), Susie Kirk, Nancy Lockett, 23 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Thank you, Mama, Sister, Aunt, Nanny, Big Nanny, Counselor, Mentor, and Beloved Friend. You may be gone from us but you are still with us in our hearts and minds.
Wake will be held Friday, April 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ferguson Memorial Baptist Church, 124 Marshall Avenue in Dunbar. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, at 11:30 a.m. at Grace Bible Church, 600 Kanawha Blvd W. in Charleston, with Minister David Fryson officiating. The body of Mrs. Corbett will lie in repose 1 1/2 hours prior to funeral services at the church. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Dunbar.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
