Obituary

Jerry Michael Mondy, age 67, died as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident on April 2, 2009.

He was born September 14, 1941 in Charleston, raised in Dunbar and was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome Mason Mondy and Farel Buckalew Mondy. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Louise Mullenax Mondy, his daughter, Kelly Mondy Young and her husband Joseph Howard Young of Hurricane and his son, Brett Michael Mason Mondy and his wife Jodi Carpenter Mondy of Winfield and three grandchildren, Nicholas Allen Young, Grant Michael Young and Kirk Michael Mondy and his dog, Holly.

He was a graduate of the 1959 class of Dunbar High School, attended West Virginia State College and graduated from the Electrical Apprentice Program.

He was an electrical contractor, President of Mondy Electric, Inc. and co-founder of Stealth, Ltd. He was past-president and served on the Board of the Constructors' Labor Council of West Virginia, he served as Trustee of the West Virginia Heavy and Highway Construction Industry Fund and the West Virginia Laborers Training and Apprentice Fund, he was past-president and an active member of the Kanawha Valley Builders Association and a member of the National Electrical Contractors Association, he was a member of the Laborers' Union and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 466. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of Rock Branch Community Bank. He had previously served as the project manager of the Turnpike Memorial Tunnel project and was the Owners' Representative overseeing the construction of the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences. He was a member of Cross Lanes Baptist Church and was active as an usher and member of the Outreach Sunday School Class. He utilized his project management experience when he oversaw the construction of the Church's Family Resource Center. He was a member of the Dunbar High School 50 year Alumni Reunion Committee.

His family and friends will remember him as a compassionate, generous and thoughtful person. He always thought of others before himself.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Cross Lanes Baptist Church Building Fund or the Putnam County Animal Shelter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 5, at Cross Lanes Baptist Church, with the Rev. Seth Polk officiating. Entombment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, April 4, at Cross Lanes Baptist Church.
