Jo Ann (Straughan) Garretson, 78, of Dunbar, passed away on Thursday, April 4, at Hubbard Hospice House West, of complications following breast cancer.

Jo Ann was born on April 12, 1940 in Riverside, to the late Bill and Dollie Straughan. She married Benot F. Garretson, Jr. After moving to Spartanburg, SC and she began working for Hoechst Celanese from which she retired.

She enjoyed going to the West Dunbar Community Church and as well as the South Charleston Church of Christ. She was a 13 year volunteer for the Charleston Rod Run and Doo Wop Car Show.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Benot F. Garretson Jr.; and son Ricky A. Garretson.

Jo Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Michele Garretson of Dunbar; sister, Patsy Straughan McIntyre (Lloyd) of Charleston; brothers, William Straughan (Henrietta) of Roebuck, SC , Harry Straughan (Kathy) of Sunset Beach, NC; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Kelly Harless for her special care of Jo Ann.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 9, at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar, with Pastor Louie Watts officiating.

Friends may visit 15 minutes prior to the service at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hubbard Hospice House West, 46505 MacCorkle Avenue SW, South Charleston, WV 25309.
