Joan Elaine Johnson Chapman, 73, of Cross Lanes, WV passed away on January 15, 2024 in WVU Medical/Thomas Hospital in South Charleston, WV after a brief illness.

She attended Upper Pinch Elementary, Sugar Creek Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Junior High, and graduated from Sissonville High School.  Joan then went on to study at West Virginia State College.  She was a dedicated employee of the West Virginia Department of Finance and Administration.  Prior to working for the government, Joan was an Internal Auditor for the Midwest Steel Corporation, and worked for Baker Equipment Engineering.

Joan was Baptized into the Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and was a faithful servant of God.  She was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  Joan will be missed by everyone that got to experience her knowledge, infectious smile, and sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Opal Marie Maser Johnson and father, Junior William Johnson of Charleston; and son, Michael Roger Chapman of St. Albans.

Joan is survived by her husband of 51 years, Roger Leo Chapman of Cross Lanes; daughter-in-law, Tierney Chapman and granddaughter Aurora of St. Albans; brother, Johnny William Johnson and wife Janet; niece, Erica Michelle Elliott, her husband James, grand-niece, Addison and grand-nephew Easton; and niece, Valerie Nicole Calvin and her husband Dallas, all of Harrisburg, PA.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 20 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor David Keeney officiating.  Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
