John R. Carte III, 72, of South Charleston, passed away peacefully to be with his parents, son and brothers on Thursday, October 26, 2023.

He was born on September 8, 1951, in Charleston, to the late John Jr. and Dorothy Carte.

John loved his family tremendously. He enjoyed going racing, the beach and spending time with his family. In his spare time he enjoyed working with his hands and working on vehicles for people. He enjoyed life to the fullest.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by, son, Richard Kurtz; brothers, Bobby and David Carte.

John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Catherine Carte; son Timothy Carte and wife Nikki of South Charleston; sister, Sharon Scragg and husband Joe of South Charleston; grandchildren, Cody Carte and fiancee Jessica of South Charleston, Dustin Carte and fiancee Alyssa of Cross Lanes, Calli Cole, Alicia Kurtz, Brent Kurtz, and Courtney Barnes and husband Quintin all of Tyrone, PA; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Harper and Greyson of South Charleston; and seven great-grandchildren of Tyrone, PA.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 30, in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar, with Pastor David Keeney officiating.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
