John William Criner, 84, of Dunbar, born on June 11, 1931, died on July 15, 2015 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.
He graduated from Poca High School in 1950 and served in the U S Army during the Korean Conflict. John retired in 1987 after 27 years of service from Borg Warner Chemical, now GE Plastics, in Washington, WV. He lived in Parkersburg for 30 years where he was a member of the Liberty Street Church of God; he was also a member of the First Church of God in Dunbar and a wonderful Christian man. John loved hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Exie and Allen Criner; sister, Beatrice Eads; son, Roger; and grandson, Johnny.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Othel Starkey Criner; son, Rev. Michael Criner (Tammy) of Springfield, Ohio; five grandchildren, Janelle, Melinda, Bethany, DeAnna, Michael and their companions; seven great grandchildren; sister, Theone Hammack; nieces, nephews and lots of friends.
A tribute to his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 20 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with the Rev. Dr. Larry McCallister officiating. Entombment will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
