John Frank McKee, 78, of Thomasville, NC, passed away September 27, 2007.
He was born July 24, 1929, in Dunbar, and was of the Baptist Faith.
In 1948, he graduated from Walton High School and did his best to stay connected with his classmates throughout the years. He proudly served 2 years with the US Air Force. John retired after 32 years service from Union Carbide working at the Institute Plant and later as an expeditor with International Purchasing. During that same time he sold real estate for 10 years with Town & Country Realty in Cross Lanes. John also worked for AAA Auto Services in Charleston and again in Ft. Myers, FL.
In the 1970's, John served publicly as a City Councilman for the City of Dunbar and was instrumental in getting the Public Library, Swimming Pool, City Hall Renovations and many other projects up & running. In 1997, he received a citation for completing a community-policing course from the Citizen Police Academy, Thomasville, NC.
He was a resident of Ft. Myers, Florida for 8 ½ years, and Tampa, FL for 2 years, and then moved to the Greensboro, NC area in 1994.
Surviving – Wife: Lahoma June Keeney McKee of Thomasville, NC, Daughter: Beth McKee Lyons & her husband, Mike Lyons of Nitro, WV. Beloved Pomeranian; Prince and Granddogger Sophie.
Also Surviving Half Sister Katherine Gandee Tolley and husband Bill of Elkview, WV.
Many nieces, nephews, cousins and a large circle of friends.
His Father, John F. McKee, Sr., his Mother Minnie Muriel Kee McKee Gandee, and his Step-Father Jerry O. Gandee, Sister Alyce Gandee Boyd Titus and Step-Brother J.O. Gandee, Jr. preceded John in death. He was the Grandson of prominent businessmen Alfred "Bub" Kee of Gandeeville, WV and Elza McKee of Centerpoint, WV.
Remembrances may be shared with the family at Keller Funeral Home on October 5, 2007 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm, followed by a memorial service with Minister Charles Shelton presiding.
