Obituary

Let us not mourn his passing. Let us rejoice to know that his earthly labor is finished and he was prepared to go home.

John Robert Morris, Jr. passed away peacefully at the General Division of Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV, on November 8, 2007. Born in Highpoint, North Carolina on August 6, 1943, he was the younger of two children born to the late John Robert Morris, Sr. and Ida Mae Sturgess Morris.

John was educated in Highpoint, North Carolina. In his teenage years his family moved to the Charleston, WV area where he attended and graduated from St. Albans High School. John served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1968. He then moved to New York where he resided until returning to Charleston, WV in 1976. John was employed for 30 years at the Institute site of Bayer Cropscience (formerly Union Carbide Corporation/Rhone-Poulence/Aventis CropSience). He worked in both the Shift and Maintenance organizations until his retirement in 2004.

John surrendered his life to Christ early in his life and was baptized at an early age. John loved his church and enjoyed working in the church. He was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he served diligently and energetically as a member, ordained Deacon and member of the Shiloh Mass Choir until his demise. He was a Mason and had served as Master of Morgan Lodge #5, St. Albans, WV.

John was a good and loving husband, son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, neighbor and friend. He loving working on and around his home and was always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors and friends. He was loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his father, John was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Alice Adkins.

John leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Deborah; mother, Ida; children, Theresa Morris, Todd Morris, Christopher Morris, Felicia Eerguson and Carolyn King; mother-in-law, Ellen Hairston; grandchildren, Idelic Dunn, Jr. and Morgan Ferguson; nephew, Fred Adkins; nieces, Lori Ann (Robert) Linthicome and Lisa Borders. Also surviving are a host of other cousins, aunts, great nephews and extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 10, at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Charleston, with the Rev. Lenorris Dixon officiating. Burial will be in the Glen Rest Memorial Estates, Reynoldsburg, Ohio on Tuesday, November 13, 2007.

Friends may call on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
