Wanner
April 19, 1945 – August 18, 2017
John Wanner, 72, of South Charleston, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017 at Hubbard Hospice House West due to complications from lung cancer.
John was the son of the late Cecil and Alma Wanner.
He grew up in Quick, WV, and graduated from Elkview High School in 1963.
After high school, he worked at various places, including, Halliburton, and UPS. John then went to work for Kroger Company as a truck drive, and retired in 2004 after 31 years of service. After retirement, he found pleasure playing golf and working in the golf shop at the Little Creek Golf Course.
John is a Christian, having given his heart to the Lord in 1977, and was an active member of the Dunbar Mountain Mission.
In addition to his parents, he preceded in death by his sister, Donna Morris.
John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karen Thomas Wanner, daughters, Kimberly Wanner of Dunbar, and Lisa (Doug) Long of Palm Harbor, Fl., grandsons, David Nolawski of Dunbar, and Nathan Alderson of Hendersonville, Tn., brothers, Leon (Jeanie) Wanner of Galax, Va., Charles "Chuck" (Janet) Wanner of Indianapolis, In., and a special "like a brother" friend Chuck Hudson.
We weep for our loss of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, but we celebrate him home.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 21, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 22 at Keller Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Lucas officiating, burial will follow at Floral Hills Gardens of Memories.
Flowers are welcome, but the family suggests donations to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., W., Charleston, WV.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
