Jonathan Thomas
Carey
June 21, 1977 – January 1, 2024
Jonathan Thomas Carey, 46, of South Charleston, passed away on January 1, 2024, passing peacefully yet unexpectedly in his sleep.
For the past year Jonathan battled heart and kidney conditions, underwent heart surgery and dialysis, yet gracefully still maintained his sense of humor, smile and ambition to get better as a person.
Jonathan was born on June 21, 1977, in South Charleston, where he lived the majority of his life. He pursued many endeavors and had a entrepreneurial mind helping him succeed in multiple sales and business adventures.
His passing came as a great shock, a deep wound and is gravely felt by his family and many others who loved him deeply. The family profoundly appreciates all the support of friends and family that sent messages, called, and made donations to help with funeral arrangements. Words can't express our gratitude for your generosity, love, and support.
Jonathan was a big personality with a heart of gold and sense of humor that could rival the greatest comedians. Every room he was in had more smiles in it because of his presence, The thing he loved most was being a father to his son, Chayse and daughter, Layla. Nothing made him more proud, and no conversation went very far without him mentioning them. Jonathan loved to cook on the charcoal grill, and made the best BBQ ribs you've ever eaten. He found peace and joy in playing pool and poker with his friends and recently he had become fascinated with tornadoes and planned to go storm chasing in tornado alley. He simply loved to be around people and entertain the crowd. At his core he was a family man. He loved to hang out with his dogs and his mom and watch game shows, football, and TV shows, and for some unknown reason remained a Dallas Cowboys fan all his life. His laugh, smile and the joy he brought to the world and this around him will be greatly missed by those that loved him.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Janet Ingram.
Jonathan is survived by his loving mother, Debbie Carey; father, Rick Carey; daughter, Layla Carey; son, Chayse Carey; sister, Lisa Dean; and brother, Richie Carey.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, January 22, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor David Keeney officiating.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
All are welcome to come. One thing we know for sure is Jonathan would want to know how many people showed up, and he'd want names. So please come say your goodbyes and tell him you love him one more time.
