Obituary

Joseph Douglas "Doug" Lindsey Sr., of Nitro, went to his Heavenly home to be with Jesus at age 81, on October 3, 2023, at his beloved "Little Yellow House" in Melbourne Florida, with his family by his side.

He was the 8th of nine Lindsey children born to the late Herbert William Lindsey and Minnie Mae Mallet Lindsey of Dunbar.

Doug was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a loyal friend. His laughter and smile will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1960 and went on to become a pipefitter, pipe designer, and project engineer for Union Boiler. He was a member of Pipefitters Local Union 625, Charleston, where he retired with 60+ years of service. Doug was saved in October of 1966 at the age of 24 and from that day forward he faithfully loved and served the Lord with all his heart and shared his faith in Jesus Christ with everyone he met. His greatest desire was to see ALL of his family and friends come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, so he could see them again in Heaven. He was a member of Cross Lanes Bible Church in Cross Lanes and an associate member of Eau Gallie First Baptist Church in Melbourne, FL.

Doug was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish with his children, grandchildren, family and friends, and spend time hiking the hills of West Virginia, in search of the best spot to put up a tree stand or a twisted old root he could turn into an amazing piece of art. Doug was known for his award-winning wood carving and his work has been featured at local art festivals and carving contests. Despite losing most of his fingers after a heart transplant in 2012, he continued to carve beautiful pieces of art that will be cherished heirlooms for generations to come. He was a member of Ashland Area Wood Carvers, Ashland Kentucky, and Space Coast Wood Carvers Club, Melbourne Florida.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Miriam Lindsey; siblings, Paul Henry Lindsey, Goldie Louise Buker, Eva Mae Garrett, Carl Ray "Wort" Lindsey, Betty Jo Jenkins, Linda Louella Ferguson, and Freda Fay Crewdson.

Doug is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 62 years, Jeanie Boggess Lindsey; children, Doug and Tammy Lindsey, Missy and Joe Ciccarello, Matt and Christy Lindsey, Jon and Kristen Lindsey; grandchildren, Austin, Katie, Cheyenne, Baylee, Malachi, Tabitha, Simon, Ivery, Skylar, Tyler, Amy, Alex, Gabriel, Joshua, Daniel, Christopher, Isaac, Eli and Olivia; great-granchildren, Marley, Rayna, Beckett, Amelia, Jameson, Sutton, Owen, Kai, Eden and Silas; brother and sister-n-law, Tom and Mary Lou Lindsey of Melbourne, FL; and many cherished and treasured nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends, whom he considered family.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, at Cross Lanes Bible Church, Cross Lanes. Burial will immediately follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

Friends may visit one hour prior to the service and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 9, at Cross Lanes Bible Church, Cross Lanes.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Cross Lanes Bible Church, 5442 Big Tyler Rd, Cross Lanes, WV 25313, or Eau Gallie First Baptist Church, 1501 W Eau Gallie Blvd, Melbourne, FL 32935, so the Gospel of Jesus Christ can be spread to further reach lost souls for Jesus, as that was Doug's greatest desire in life.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished by course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them them that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
