Joseph Michael Hardman

Joseph Michael Hardman, 59, of Cross Lanes, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, after a short battle with cancer.

Joe was born on February 22, 1967, the fourth child of William Richard and Phyllis Ann (Brown) Hardman, both of whom preceded him in death.

Joe graduated from Dunbar High School in 1985. Following graduation, he began working at Pile Hardware Store on Charleston’s West Side, where he remained employed for more than 20 years. Joe was an avid NASCAR fan and loved watching professional wrestling.

After his years at the hardware store, Joe spent much of his time helping his older sister, Barbara “Bobbi” Ann Hill, who had taken on the responsibility of raising Joe, Bill, and Chris following the passing of their parents. Joe was devoted to his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Joe had a heart of gold—and a stubbornness to match it. He was a man who was never afraid to speak his mind. If he liked you, he would do anything within his power for you. And if he didn’t like you, you knew exactly where you stood with him. Those who knew Joe will remember his strong personality, his loyalty, his honesty, and the unique way he showed his love for the people who mattered to him.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, William Richard and Phyllis Ann Hardman, and his oldest brother, Richard Charles Hardman.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Barbara “Bobbi” Ann Hill; his older brother, Bill Hardman (Shay); and his younger brother, Chris Hardman (Kelly), along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Joe will be miss dearly.

Joe’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be no formal service at this time. A family memorial service will be held later to Celebrate Joe’s Life.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

Rest in peace, Joe. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who loved you.
