Obituary

Karl Stewart, previously known as Tommy or Kool by his friends, 64, of South Charleston passed away on May 24, 2023.

He was born on October 2, 1958 to the late Eugene D. and Lucy E. Stewart at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.  He married Amy Marie Givens on February 14, 1980.  The couple had two children, Tracy Eugene and Kassandra Dawn, who bore them two grandchildren, Trysta and Michael with another boy due in October of this year.

Karl worked for Lester Raines in the 1970's and 80's until he injured his back unloading a truck and became disabled.  From there on he lived his life doing whatever he wanted and was able to do; including attending blue grass festivals and taking their children camping and fishing.  In the late 80's Karl and Amy were very involved with The Rose of Sharon Church in South Charleston.  Karl was even preaching a little while after Amy was diagnosed with cancer.  Amy's cancer involved months of treatments, heartaches and pain for the couple.  Something tore them away from the church in the late 90's and led them down a different path.  Karl never lost his love for the Lord, his family or for helping others.  He knew the Word well and even continued to lead others to Christ while he himself was in a backslidden state of his life.

The one thing people need to know about Karl is that if he ever considered you his friend then you know you had a friend until he left this life and moved on to the next.  He did rededicate his life to the Lord while was in the hospital and was looking forward to going home with his parents and other family who had gone before him.

In addition to his parents Karl was preceded in death by his wife, Amy Marie.

Karl is survived by his two children; his two, and soon to be three, grandchildren; brother, Leonard; sister, Sharon; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Penny Snodgrass, who was there for him as he faced his final days.

There is no service scheduled at this time.

Arrangements are in care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
