Kathleen Burford, 75, of Charleston went home to be with her Lord Jesus on June 22, 2010 after a short courageous battle with cancer.
Born October 7, 1934 in Charleston, Kathleen was the youngest daughter of the late Hurchel and Chessie McCown of Tyler Mountain.
A graduate of Dunbar High School and a lifelong resident of Tyler Mountain, Kathleen worked at L.M. McCown Meat Company and retired from C.A.M.C. Memorial Division. Throughout her life, Kathleen cherished her relationship with Jesus and departs this life serving HIM as an avid greeter, communion worker, and worshipper at Maranatha Fellowship Church, St. Albans. In addition to her faith, Kathleen—"NEVRHOME"- loved to travel with her T.O.P.S. friends of Dunbar, visit and photograph her grandchildren, and work in her yard and flowers.
Kathleen is survived by a large and loving family: three daughters: Donna
"Dee Dee" (David) Jordan of Poca, Delilah Kemper of St. Albans, and Twyla (Jon) Donathan of Hurricane; one son: Sandford "Sam" Burford, of Fremont, California; ten grandchildren: Chad Johnson, Lori (Jordan) Bailes, Dane Jordan, Kara (Kemper)Rose, Brittany (Kemper) Halstead, Timmalee Kemper, Cody Kemper, Zach Donathan, Gavin Donathan, and Colton Donathan; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Ardith Williams of Charleston; one niece and one nephew.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday June 24, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. A private, immediate family burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Because Kathleen was "larger than life" to all who knew and loved her, a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 26, at Maranatha Fellowship.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in memory of Kathleen to the Christ Birthday Offering of Maranatha Fellowship Church, 2910 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans, WV 25177.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
