Kelly Suzanne
Quigley
May 8, 1968 – November 12, 2017
Kelly Suzanne Quigley, born on May 8, 1968, one of the world's beautiful rays of light -a gardener, chef, event planner, and decorator extraordinaire, slipped the surly bonds of earth, surrounded by her loving family, on November 12, 2017.
From her first small flower garden on the patio of our townhouse in Parkersburg; the numerous flower and cactus gardens on the "God forsaken hill" in Saint Albans; to the flower beds and vegetable garden surrounding our house in Chillicothe, Kelly loved few things more than being outside digging in the dirt. Many was the day that she shanghaied her husband and children to help with the grunt work while she organized and planned the layout of her beds. Her other favorite outdoor hobby was force marching her family up the hill in the 90° July heat for hours on end to pick berries. Of course, the complaints were somewhat stifled with the realization that homemade raspberry muffins and blackberry jam were soon to follow.
Few could rival Kelly in the kitchen. From sweet to savory, she was a master. It probably all started when, as a teenager, she was teased about her burnt brownies. Being the stubborn mule she was, she was determined to make us eat our words (literally). She was a true chef in every sense of the word. She would make a dish 4 or 5 times, tweaking the recipe each time until she had it perfect. She never wrote anything down nor would she divulge her secrets. We will forever dream of her fudge and carrot cake.
Kelly loved to host a party. Spending days to plan the menu, shop for the ingredients, organize and clean the house inside and out all were a labor of love she learned from her mother. Many was the weekend that two dozen or more family and friends would come over for a cookout and bon fire. She didn't limit herself to her own gatherings. Bridal showers, Thanksgiving, and Christmas get togethers at other peoples' houses were fair game as well.
One of her favorite times of year was Christmas. She never spent less than four days decorating the tree; the main tree that is. There was also the kitchen tree, each of the boys had a tree, and she had her own personal tree. She also had a Christmas village, the Christmas train, the handmade door wreath from the leftover tree branch trimmings (yes-there was always a live tree), and all of the outside lights and decorations. The presents under the tree looked like they came straight out of the pages of a catalog. Perfectly wrapped with no tape showing; handmade bows with curled ribbon; ornaments and trinkets hanging from the top; and personalized notes for name tags.
She truly loved making her family feel special. She will be deeply missed by those she left behind to cherish her memory: her husband, Todd; sons, Devin and Tanner; father and mother, Jack and Katie Rose; sister, Jackie Rose; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Rose Quigley; and her many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with the Rev. Billy Roe officiating.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
