Obituary

Kermit P. Carney, 92, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 in Thomas Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness.

He was the second of ten children of Howard and Fannie Carney. He was the last to survive.

His first entrepreneurial adventure was the ownership of a movie theater in Hamlin. During World War II, Kermit worked for Convair Aircraft assisting in the manufacture of war planes. He also co-owned Green Meadows Farm in Milton with Romaine, his wife who preceded him in death, where they raised laying hens, cattle, horses, pigs and two ducks. They enjoyed riding their palomino western show horses at numerous events. They enjoyed travel-trailering and wintering in Florida and Arizona.

Kermit was probably best known as part owner of Dunbar Lumber Company, which was founded by Romaine's father, Alphus Owen (A.O.) Carney.

As an avid golfer, he was co-owner of Western Hills Golf Course in Hurricane with his wife, Romaine and Deer Run Golf Course in Winfield, which he co-owned with his son, Zane. He was the designer and builder of both courses.

Mr. Carney is survived by his daughter, Diane Dixon of Denver, CO; son, Zane Carney of Tornado.
