Kevin DeWayne Jones, 57, went to be with his granny on Friday, January 10, 2025.

He was born on June 1, 1967 in Charleston, WV.

Kevin went to Stonewall Jackson High School were he played Varsity Basketball.  He also played basketball for the Charleston Rockets, and was huge Dallas Cowboys fan.  After graduating from Stonewall High, Kevin went onto Salem University for a time.  He then moved to New Jersey to work with his uncle where they helped transport people to doctor's appointments, and to see loved ones.  As a child, Kevin was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church, but then attended First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Whitney Layne Hart; stepdad, Lionel Chatman; great nephew, Kahlil Sayles; uncle, Francis Johnson; and grandparents.

Left to cherish Kevin's memory are his significant other, Melissa Scott; mother, Brenda Chatman (Cleotha); biological father, Walter "Buzz" Highsmith;; son, Richard Hendricks; daughters, Devin Kuzmeskus and Imani Jones; brother, Eric Jones (Georgia); sister, Kelly Jones; uncle, Herman Jones (Annie); his grandma and best fishing buddy, Luvenia Riley; along with five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, at King of Glory International Ministries, Charleston, with Rev. Keith Tyler officiating.
