Larry Joe Cavender, 69, of Charleston passed October 16, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him dearly and a lifetime of memories that will forever be cherished.
Larry was a Christian man whose faith was an important part of his life. He loved attending church and listening to Southern Gospel music, finding comfort and joy in the songs that spoke to his heart and reflected his faith. His faith in God was a meaningful part of who he was, and his memory will continue to live on tin the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Larry dedicated many years of his working life to Charleston Linen, which later became Tartan Textile. He began his career as a truck driver and, through hard work and dedication, worked his way into management, remaining there until the facility closed. He later joined the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles, where he served as Director of Driver Services until his retirement in 2019. Throughout his career, Larry demonstrated commitment and perseverance, building a legacy of hard work and service.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Paul and Macel Cavender.
Left to cherish his memory and mourn his passing are his loving wife, Cindy; his sons, Ric and Ryan; and his six grandchildren, Silas, Zeke, Ariana, Elijah, Josslyn, and Juliette, who brought joy and love into his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Debbie (Mike), Paula (Kent), and Terri (Stan); along with extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and CNAs at Thomas Memorial Hospital and CAMC Vandalia Health who provided Larry with such compassionate care during his many hospital stays throughout the last few years of his illness. Their kindness, dedication, and support meant more than words can express. Special thanks are also extended to Kanawha Hospice for their guidance compassion and support during this difficult journey.
Though Larry will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in the promises of their Christian faith and the hope of eternal life. While his earthly journey has ended, the love he shared, the memories he created, and the faith he carried will remain forever.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
May Larry rest in the loving arms of his Savior, and may those who loved him find peace and comfort in God’s unfailing love until they meet again.
