Obituary

Larry Barton Fogarty, 87, of South Charleston, WV passed away on March 5, 2026 at home surrounded by loving family and friends.

He was born to the late Russell Ward, Sr. and Charlotte Phoebe Fogarty of Charleston, WV and grew up on New House Drive.

Larry graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School "The Wall".  He then immediately went into the Navy as an Electrician.  He served his boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois where he graduated top of his class in the Electricians Mates School Class "A on December 21, 1956.  He later went to Albuquerque, New Mexico and received training for the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project later putting the USS Independence CVA into commission.  Larry finally received his honorable discharge from the US Navy on November 13, 1959.  During leave from the Navy, he met his loving wife Patricia at Barlows Skating rink where they skated couple waltz.  The couple never quit skating and later they would bring their entire family and half of the neighborhood children to the Roller Rink in North Charleston to skate every Monday.

Larry was a PROUD IBEW Local 466 Union Electrician for 64 years.  He was on the Executive Board for the Electrical Workers (E-Board).  He was also the Historian for the Local 466 and Managed the "Larry Fogarty Historical Library".  When the IBEW would lobby legislation at the State Capitol, you could always count on him being there supporting and discussing the info with political members.  Once retired Larry still attended the union meeting trying to be quiet and not comment or try to help the younger members.  During retirement he set up a board for the retirees and created a monthly breakfast and luncheon for the retired members to get together and visit.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Lou Fogarty, and his sister, Judy Moore.

Larry is survived by his son, Jonathon Patrick Fogarty and his children, Bethany, Maura, Garrett, and Nathan; his daughter, Vadenna Fogarty Beron (Thomas) and their daughter, Michaela Davis (Josh); his siblings, Terry Fogarty, Rusty Fogarty (Sharon), and Lara Gardner (Tim); along with many nieces and nephews he so dearly loved.

The family would like to give thanks to Kim, Jennifer, Casey, and Donna with Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Larry.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.  Burial will follow in Bailey Cobb Cemetery.

Family will welcome visitors starting at 10 a.m. until the start of the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
