Larry Arnold Shaffer, Sr., 76, of Peachtree City, GA, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017.
He was born on January 13, 1941, in Dunbar, the son of the late Rex Arnold and Christine (Davis) Shaffer, and eldest of 10 children.
Larry married Emma Kathryn "Penny" Biagi of Charleston in 1960. The consummate family man, he was most proud of his 50-year marriage to the love of his life, his 4 wonderful sons, 3 beautiful daughters-in-law, 8 amazing grandchildren, and his close relationship with his brothers, sisters, and large extended family.
He attended Dunbar High School and WV State College. Larry was an Eagle Scout, a Master Mason in The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, and had a successful, gratifying 31-year career as an IBM executive. His professional and personal life afforded him the opportunity to travel the world. He lived in France, Japan, and Germany, and throughout the U.S. He enjoyed golf, French wine and cheese, suspense novels, politics, and caring for his yard and flowers. Larry was a member of Providence United Methodist Church in Peachtree City, GA.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Linda; brothers, Patrick and Richard; son, Timothy; and wife, Penny.
He is survived by his children, Larry Jr. (Susan) of Fayetteville, GA, Gregory (Dorothy) and Jeffrey (Lisa) of Dallas, TX, and Rodney (Daniel) of Washington, DC; his grandchildren, Alexis, Alycia, Larry III, Olivia, Emily, Isabelle, Natalie, and Morgan; his siblings, Barbara (Douglas) Bastian, Rex (Lillie) Shaffer, Thomas Shaffer, Michael (Debbie) Shaffer, Mark (Margaret) Shaffer, and Kathy (Jerry) Whanger; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 29, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
