Launis Plumley, 91, went home to be with Jesus on September 16, 2016 in Dunbar.
Ms. Plumley was born on July 5, 1925 in Nellis, to her parents, William and Clara Plumley. She graduated from Elkins High School in 1946. Ms. Plumley moved to Charleston and worked for an insurance agency for 14 years, she then went to work for the WV State Insurance Commission for 13 years. She retired in 1986 and dedicated her remaining time to volunteering at church. Ms. Plumley attended bi-weekly senior exercise classes and enjoyed spending time with her family.
After her parents died at the age of 4, Ms. Plumley, was raised in the Odd Fellows and Rebekah's Home for Orphans and the Elderly in Elkins. While in the home she learned to play piano, tap danced, sang in the choir and played trumpet in the marching band.
She loved to work jigsaw puzzles, word searches and volunteering at her church. She was a faithful volunteer for over 40 years at Southridge Church, formerly known as First Church of God in Charleston.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 7 brothers and sisters.
Ms. Plumley is survived by several nieces and nephews, and her friends, Christy, Paul, and Hannah Dietz of South Charleston.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday September 22, at Southridge Church, with Pastor Scott Beha officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Launis' life.
